Estate Sale Tips
26 Aug 2016
As we mentioned in our previous post, Estate Sales are a great opportunity and lot’s of fun. We definitely recommend trying them out at the very least, to see what you think. If you do decide to give them a try, here are some tips to get you started.
There is never a bad time to come, but your best bet is first thing in the morning when we open. This can be difficult for a lot of people who work during the week, so it’s not the end of the world if you can’t. These are mostly people looking for gems and hoping to find something we missed. However, you’d be surprised at the things that fall through the cracks. We recently found a Tiffany necklace, in the box, on the Monday after a 4 day sale. A thousand people went through the house and combed over every inch of that place, yet a piece of Tiffany jewelry wasn’t discovered. Pretty amazing.
If you’re looking for home goods, anytime is fine. We discount as the weekend goes on, so if you’re looking for a great deal, show up on Sunday. However, you do run the risk of everything being gone by this point. It’s a gamble.
We always recommend leaving bids. If there’s something that you want, but don’t like the price, then leave a bid. We will call you back towards the end of the sale if we’ve decided to accept your bid.
Be respectful. These are people’s things. We are hired by the homeowners and entrusted to sell their items for as much as we possibly can. It’s not our stuff. We have the ability to negotiate, but our allegiance is to the homeowner, not you (no offense!).
